Ukraine joined the European Public Health Week

On May 12, the European Public Health Week will start in Ukraine. About this reported Public Health Center (CHZ).
“Public health is about preventing disease, promoting healthy lifestyles and maintaining a safe environment for current and future generations. Public health consists of a wide range of areas – from immunization and building a culture of health from childhood to prevention epidemics and reducing the impact of risk factors”, – says the message.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urges Ukrainians to check their vaccination status and make up for missed vaccinations.
“Thanks to mass vaccination, mankind managed to eradicate smallpox and significantly reduce the spread of other infectious diseases. Vaccination is about both individual protection and the formation of collective immunity. Unfortunately, in 2024, the level of routine vaccination coverage in Ukraine did not reach the necessary 95%, which are required for reliable protection against infections. At the same time, there are enough vaccines in the regions. If you or your child have not been vaccinated in time, contact your family doctor.” – stressed the head of the Department of Immunization of Central Hospital Lyudmila Pavlyuk.
Also, the Central Health Center draws attention to the importance of prevention of non-infectious diseases through a healthy lifestyle.
“Ukrainians have a high burden of non-communicable diseases, among them: cardiovascular, oncological, diabetes. Most of them can be prevented – through lifestyle changes: eat right, give up smoking and alcohol, move more”, – emphasized the head of the department of prevention of non-infectious diseases of the Central Hospital of Ukraine, Olena Zaporozhska.
The CGZ emphasizes that in the conditions of martial law, the strengthening of epidemic surveillance is of particular importance. It is necessary to implement modern approaches that meet international standards and take into account current challenges in the field of public health.
