Ukraine plans to limit pensions for those convicted of crimes against national security

The Verkhovna Rada adopted the government draft law No. 10355 in the first reading. It provides for the payment of a limited pension in the amount of 2,361 hryvnias to persons convicted of crimes against national security, but only for the period of serving the sentence. The draft law regulates the payment of pensions for persons convicted of crimes against the state. These pensions will not exceed the living wage for persons who have lost their capacity to work and will only be paid during the sentence.
Persons subject to this law include those convicted of violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order, usurpation of state power, public calls for terrorist acts, as well as treason, encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine, espionage, sabotage, creating paramilitary formations, war crimes, aggression, genocide, ecocide.
After the completion of the sentence, pensions for such persons will be assigned in accordance with the law “On mandatory state pension insurance”. The draft law also provides for the possibility of revising the amounts of pensions that were not paid while serving the sentence, and their further payment for past periods based on the monthly amount of the pension.
