Ukraine proposes EU to participate in financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Ukraine presented an initiative to the European Union regarding partner participation in the financing of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the gradual integration of the Ukrainian army into the European defense system. About this reported Minister of Finance Serhiy Marchenko.

During the meeting of the financial bloc of the G7 countries, Ukraine called on European partners to join in supporting the financing of the defense sector. According to Marchenko, consultations are currently ongoing regarding the possibilities of integrating the defense potential of Ukraine into the EU security system.

“I am sure that such a decision has a number of strategic advantages for Ukraine, in particular, the preservation of financial stability in 2026 and beyond, and for the EU – protection from potential Russian aggression. After all, the Ukrainian army has all the necessary experience for this.”, the minister said.

He explained that the costs of supporting the armed forces in the context of pan-European security will constitute a small share of the EU’s GDP. These costs can be shared between member states and counted as part of their defense obligations under NATO standards.

“He emphasized that supporting Ukraine is an investment in the stability of Europe. And strengthening defense capabilities is not a political choice, but an urgent need. We must act today in order to be strong in the future.”Marchenko emphasized.
