Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit Hungary to take part in the summit of the European Political Community

On Thursday, 7 November, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will pay a visit to Hungary to take part in the summit of the European Political Community. He announced this during his evening address.

Zelenskyy noted that he would visit Budapest today at the invitation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who holds the EU presidency, and European Council President Charles Michel.

I thank you for the invitation. We will discuss security challenges in Europe, as well as new opportunities for all partners. There will be a number of meetings, a number of agreements with European leaders,’ Zelenskyy said.

It is worth noting that since the start of the large-scale Russian aggression in February 2022, Zelenskyy has not visited Hungary.

Earlier, the President of Ukraine announced that negotiations were underway to prepare a bilateral agreement with Hungary.

As a reminder, Viktor Orban said that the EU may have to reconsider its support for Ukraine if Trump wins the US election.

Orban had also previously said that Zelenskyy’s ‘victory plan’ was ineffective, saying that ‘it is impossible to win with it, only to lose’.

In addition, it was reported that a group of MEPs called for Hungary’s voting rights in the EU to be revoked due to Orban’s ‘peacekeeping missions’ in Russia and China.

However, the European Union has no legal means to remove Hungary from the presidency, despite the fact that Orban’s credibility has significantly decreased after his visit to Moscow.
