Ukraine received €1 billion from the EU at the expense of Russian assets

On April 9, the European Union granted Ukraine the third tranche in the amount of 1 billion euros within the framework of the “Emergency Loan in Support of Ukraine” (ERA) initiative. About this reported Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal after meeting with European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Valdis Dombrovskis in Brussels.

According to Shmyhal, the funds came through the G7 mechanism and were secured by income from frozen Russian assets. These funds will be directed to important expenses of the state budget of Ukraine.

“I emphasized at the meeting that our main goal is the complete confiscation of frozen Russian sovereign assets, which should become a resource for the recovery of Ukraine. We paid special attention to this issue.” Shmyhal noted.

ERA is a G7 initiative, which provides for the transfer of 50 billion dollars to Ukraine, of which 20 billion is provided by the European Union. In general, within the framework of this program, European partners have already provided Ukraine with 5 billion euros.

“In 2025, the EU directed 8.5 billion euros to the State Budget of Ukraine – the most among all donors. The funds came within the framework of the ERA mechanism and the financial instrument Ukraine Facility. I am grateful to our partners for consistent and predictable support that supports Ukraine’s financial stability. The funding involved is directed to priority areas of the country’s budget.” – added Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko.
