Ukraine spent USD 79.5 million on coffee imports in the 1st quarter of 2025

According to the results of the first quarter of 2025, Ukraine imported 11,256 thousand tons of coffee and its substitutes. This is almost at the level of last year’s indicator – in January-March 2024, the volumes amounted to 11,117 thousand. tons However, despite the slight increase in physical imports, the financial costs of purchasing this product increased by almost 40%. About this informs “Agro Perspective”.
According to the data of the State Customs Service, in the three months of 2025, Ukraine spent USD 79.5 million on coffee imports, while in the first quarter of 2024 — only USD 57.23 million.
The reasons for this growth lie in global market trends. The price of coffee beans has been steadily increasing since 2019. This is influenced by several factors: the increase in fertilizer prices, the increase in wages on coffee plantations, as well as the deterioration of climatic conditions in exporting countries. The year 2024 was particularly difficult, when many leading suppliers faced a crop failure, which reduced the volume of supply on the world market and further pushed prices up.
We will remind, in 2019 Ukraine imported 44,684 thousand tons of coffee worth 144.186 million dollars. In previous years, the volumes were smaller: in 2018 — 39,794 thousand. tons for 128.387 million dollars, in 2017 – 30.95 thousand. tons for 106.63 million dollars.
Thus, despite approximately the same amount of imported coffee in recent years, the costs of its purchase are growing rapidly. If the trend of rising prices on the world market continues, the price of coffee for the final Ukrainian consumers will also increase.
