Ukraine supported the statement on the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention

Ukraine, together with 59 other countries, joined the Joint Statement, which calls for strict compliance with the provisions of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, in particular, regarding the prohibition of the use of chemical means of fighting riots as a method of warfare.
About this reported Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. The statement was announced during the 29th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
“We fully share the position that the use of chemical weapons and chemical means of fighting riots as a method of warfare constitutes a gross violation of the norms of international law and endangers the achievement of a world free of chemical weapons. We highly appreciate the work of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and States -partners, aimed at proving the facts of the Russian Federation’s use of chemical means of fighting riots as a means of waging war against Ukraine.” – the message says.
According to the report of the OPCW, the use of chemical substances belonging to the means of fighting riots, which directly contradicts the requirements of the Convention, was detected on the front line in Ukraine.
“The joint statement draws special attention to these violations – numerous reports of the Russian Federation’s use of anti-riot chemical agents and other toxic chemicals on the front line in Ukraine. The Ukrainian side has documented 4,950 cases of the Russian Federation’s use of munitions in the period from February 2023 contain dangerous chemicals”, — noted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
