Ukraine to launch web portal of court decisions on war crimes on War Crime platform

More than 140,000 war crimes cases have already been registered in Ukraine, and court decisions on them will be collected on a new digital platform called War Crime. This became known during the Second Annual Conference ‘Justice in National Courts in War Crimes Cases’, which took place in Kyiv under the slogan ‘Defending the Inevitability of Punishment’, according to the State Enterprise ‘Information Court Systems’.
‘We are starting to implement a great idea together with our international partners – the USAID Justice for All Activity – to create a digital search platform for War Crime. The State Judicial Administration of Ukraine and the State Enterprise ‘Information Court Systems’ are the technical partners of the High Council of Justice in this large-scale project. War Crime will be the first project for the Project Office for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalisation of Courts, Bodies and Institutions of the Justice System at the SJA of Ukraine,’ said Leonid Sapelnikov, Deputy Head of the SJA for Digital Development and Transformation, during the conference.
For the Project Office for Digital Transformation, War Crime will be the first large-scale project in the field of justice.
The platform will provide open and fast access to court decisions in war crimes cases, allowing lawyers and researchers to track case law, analyse it and systematise information.
Sapelnikov also reminded that after conducting technical and functional audits of the UJITS in cooperation with international partners, large-scale reforms of the judicial information system were announced. The planned changes include automation of workflows, improvement of UX/UI, ensuring accessibility for all, transition to a composite architecture for easier upgrades and scaling, and implementation of international information security standards.
