Ukraine will receive 42.5 million euros to restore the Chernobyl NPP arch, which was damaged by the Russian army

France, Great Britain and the European Commission have announced the allocation of 42.5 million euros for the restoration of the New Safe Confinement (NSC) at the Chernobyl NPP. About this reported Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svitlana Grynchuk.
The additional donor contributions were announced during the meeting of the Assembly of Contributors to the Chernobyl International Cooperation Account held at the headquarters of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London.
The following announced their contributions: France — €10.6 million; Great Britain — €6.9 million; European Commission — €25 million. In addition, within the scope of Grant Agreement No. 5, another €5 million will be allocated for the analysis of damage to the arch, as well as the development and implementation of measures for the temporary repair of the structure.
At the meeting, plans for the repair and full restoration of the object’s functionality were discussed. According to Grynchuk, international partners recognize Ukraine’s progress in carrying out surveys and preparatory work, but emphasize that the amount of resources needed for full recovery may exceed the current capabilities of the Account.
We will remind you that in March 2024, 400,000 euros were already allocated from the administrative budget of the Account to research the damage to the National Bank of Ukraine. The funding was used to study the effects of a Russian drone strike on the facility’s protective structure. The following stages included determining the extent of damage and finding sources of funds to restore the functioning of confinement.
