Ukrainian self-propelled gun “Bogdana” received an international patent

“Kramatorsk plant of heavy machine tool construction” (KZVV) officially registered international patent for self-propelled artillery installation 2С22 “Bohdana”. The development is designed as a separate artillery module that can be installed on different chassis, as well as a full-fledged artillery system in the finished configuration.

The patent was filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) procedure, which allows the company to protect the invention simultaneously in several countries. Such a mechanism creates favorable conditions for the protection of intellectual property rights in European states, regulating the duties of both the CSIRO and the partner countries.

In the submitted patent documentation, the “Bohdana” ACS is presented on a new wheeled chassis and in a complete system configuration. The price of one self-propelled artillery installation is from 2.3 to 2.8 million euros, depending on the chosen chassis and the configuration of the armored cabin in a specific model. For security reasons, production in Ukraine was distributed between several locations. In addition, a system of duplication has been introduced – no component is manufactured exclusively at one enterprise.

Increased attention to the patent registration of the artillery installation may indicate the company’s intentions to establish its production in European countries. In particular, Denmark may show interest, which recently announced its intention to invest 47 million dollars in the development of Ukrainian arms production on its territory.

Given Denmark’s participation in financing the production of the Bogdan self-propelled guns for the Defense Forces of Ukraine, as well as its own needs in artillery systems, Copenhagen may consider the possibility of localizing Ukrainian production.
