Ukrnafta has begun geological exploration at the Oleska area

“Ukrnafta” has started geological exploration work on the Oleska square – a large oil and gas-bearing territory in western Ukraine, the area of which exceeds 6,000 square kilometers. About this reported on the company’s website.

The search will cover both traditional oil and gas deposits and unconventional sources, including shale gas and gas from tight reservoirs. In case of successful results, this could become a starting point for the production of unconventional hydrocarbons in Ukraine.

This project will reduce energy dependence on imports, as well as contribute to the creation of new jobs in Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. Thanks to Oleska Square, the resource base of “Ukrnafta” significantly increases: 6,324 square kilometers of new oil and gas territories are added to the existing 2,125 square kilometers.

“Ukrnafta” is the country’s largest oil-producing company, which owns more than 80 special permits for hydrocarbon production and has the largest network of 545 gas stations. As of March 1, 2025, production was carried out at 1,810 oil and 161 gas wells.

We will remind that until 2014, the special permit for the development of Oleska Square, covering the territories of Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, belonged to Chevron Ukraine B.V. companies. and “Nadra Oleska” LLC.
