Ukrzaliznytsia has resumed online auctions for the sale of scrap metal

Joint-stock company “Ukrzaliznytsia” has resumed online auctions for the sale of scrap metal after a break of one and a half years. On June 5, 2025, the first online auctions for the sale of scrap metal since the fall of 2023 were held. The auctions took place through the Prozorro.Prodazhi electronic system, which provides an open and competitive mechanism for the sale of state assets. This is reported on Рrozorro.sale.
33 lots of ferrous metal scrap were put up for auction. Seven of them aroused real interest among potential buyers. On average, three participants competed for each of these lots. The total starting value of the seven lots that reached the bidding stage amounted to almost 11.9 million hryvnias. According to the results of the auction, the amount to be paid by the winners has increased to approximately 13 million hryvnias.
The company will receive the largest revenue from the sale of 300 tons of scrap obtained from the axles of railway wheel pairs. This lot will bring more than 2.3 million hryvnias.
Online auctions were conducted through the “Prozorro.Prodazhi” platform, which allows for equal access for all participants, transparency of procedures and excludes the possibility of interference in the course of bidding. Anyone can watch the process in real time.
We will remind you that the company already planned to start selling scrap metal on May 26, 2025. At that time, about 12,000 tons of scrap, divided into more than 30 lots, were to be put up for auction. However, the first attempts were unsuccessful: a large part of the lots did not interest the participants – some did not receive a single application, others – only one.
Despite this, during previous meetings with market representatives, the companies expressed their readiness to participate in electronic auctions. The resumption of auctions in June, as noted in “Ukrzaliznytsia”, demonstrates the effectiveness of open competitive procedures and the readiness of the public sector for transparent management of resources.
