UN Refugee Agency compensates IDPs for rent

In 2025, the “Right to Protection” charitable foundation, in cooperation with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), will provide financial support to internally displaced persons to cover the cost of housing rent in a number of regions of Ukraine. About this reported Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on the Organization of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning, Olena Shulyak.
The program will operate in Kyiv, Kyiv region, as well as in Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Kirovohrad, and Zaporizhia regions. It provides compensation for the cost of rent for a period of up to six months.
Both internally displaced persons and Ukrainians who have returned from abroad and live in places of temporary accommodation — modular towns, educational institutions, health care, etc. — will be able to receive assistance. Participation in the program is also possible for those who rent housing with inappropriate conditions or are at risk of eviction.
Among the conditions for participation is the presence of a plan for self-sufficiency after completing the program, including employment, business development or retraining. Families must find housing on their own and pay the first two months of rent — these costs will be reimbursed within the program. However, participation in it is possible only in the absence of previous rent payments or state housing subsidy.
We will remind that on April 2, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted two resolutions that allow to attract an additional 150 million euros in loans from the Development Bank of the Council of Europe for compensation for destroyed housing and providing housing loans for IDPs.
