UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expresses reaction to Israel’s decision to declare him persona non grata

Israel announced a ban on UN Secretary General António Guterres from entering the country. In turn, Guterres assured that he condemns yesterday’s massive missile attack by Iran on Israel.

About this informs Reuters.

On October 1, Guterres issued a statement in which he reacted to the Iranian attack: “I condemn the escalation of conflict in the Middle East, escalation after escalation. This must stop. We need a ceasefire.”

Israel’s Foreign Ministry called António Guterres’ response “ambiguous” and accused him of failing to clearly condemn Iran’s massive missile strike on Israel.

Guterres also reacted to the declaration of his persona non grata, stressing that he condemns yesterday’s missile attack by Iran on Israel.

“As was the case with Iran’s April attack, and as should have been obvious yesterday in the context of my condemnation, I again strongly condemn yesterday’s massive Iranian missile attack on Israel.”, he said at a meeting of the UN Security Council, reports Ukrinform.

At the same time, Guterres emphasized that since October last year, Israel has been conducting “the most deadly and destructive military campaign” in Gaza during his tenure as Secretary General.

“The suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza is unimaginable.” he added.
