More than 50 individuals and legal entities, as well as more than 50 vessels belonging to a network controlled by Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, the son of an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, fell under the new restrictions.
“This network transports oil and petroleum products from Iran and Russia, as well as other goods to customers around the world, bringing in tens of billions of dollars in profits.”, – states the American Ministry of Finance.
The agency notes that the network controlled by Hossein Shamkhani controls a significant portion of Iran’s crude oil exports. The proceeds from these activities go directly to his family and the Iranian regime.
The Shamkhani family, according to information from the US Department of the Treasury, has citizenship of several countries, which allows it to hide its ties to Iran and conduct business outside the country, concealing corrupt enrichment schemes. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the current package of sanctions covers more than 115 sanctions and is the largest ever campaign of economic pressure on Iran by the Trump administration.
