The EU will have to reconsider its support for Ukraine if Trump wins the US election: Orban

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said that the European Union will have to reconsider its support for Ukraine if Donald Trump wins the US presidential election, Reuters reports.
Orban stressed that the EU ‘will not be able to bear the burden of war alone’, and if the US turns to peace, Europe will have to adapt to new conditions.
‘We, in Europe, must realise that if America has a president who is pro-peace, which I not only believe in, but I read the numbers, […] if what we expect happens and America becomes peaceful, then Europe cannot remain pro-war,’ Orban said.
He added that support for Ukraine will be one of the main issues on the agenda of the meeting of European leaders in Budapest this week.
Trump’s position on the war in Ukraine Donald Trump has not publicly disclosed specific plans for Ukraine, but during the election campaign he repeatedly stated that he would ‘end the war’ if re-elected, without explaining what he would do.
According to Reuters, Trump’s advisers have developed a plan that provides for additional military assistance to Ukraine only if Kyiv agrees to negotiate with Moscow. In addition, Trump has indicated that he may cut off financial support to Ukraine.
At a debate with Joe Biden on 28 June, Trump expressed disagreement with Putin’s demands that Ukraine withdraw from the occupied territories and refuse to join NATO. However, James DeVance, whom Trump is considering as a vice presidential candidate, voiced the opposite position.
During the debate with Kamala Harris, Trump was asked twice whether he wanted Ukraine to defeat Russia. He replied twice that he wanted to end the war and save lives. Harris, in turn, said that Trump would simply give up Ukraine 24 hours after taking office.
