Today, June 16, on the last day of the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, the participating countries will sign a joint statement that will outline their views on a number of issues related to the war in Ukraine. The mass media managed to obtain the text of this declaration.

On June 15, the Peace Summit initiated by Ukraine began in Lucerne (Switzerland). According to its results, it is planned to adopt a joint communiqué on the end of the war in Ukraine. It is expected that the countries of the world will unanimously express their positions on three key aspects in the document. According to Reuters, the states that support the declaration share a common vision on the following important issues:

  • The inadmissibility of using nuclear weapons in the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian nuclear power plants, in particular Zaporizhzhya NPP, must operate safely under the sovereign control of Ukraine and the supervision of the IAEA.
  • Ensuring free, safe commercial shipping and access to seaports of the Black and Azov seas. Food safety should not be used as a means of pressure. Ukrainian agricultural products must be delivered safely to third countries.
  • All prisoners of war must be released on the principle of “all for all”. Deported and illegally displaced Ukrainian children and civilians must be returned to Ukraine.

The declaration also states that achieving peace is possible only through dialogue of all parties to the conflict. In the future, it is planned to involve both parties in order to fulfill the specified points.

The declaration emphasizes that the UN charter, which provides for respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states, should serve as the basis for achieving a comprehensive, just and durable peace in Ukraine.

It is noted that negotiations on the final declaration of the Peace Summit will continue until the last minute. There are several points of contention among the delegations, and it is not known whether the declaration will be accepted by all states. The possibility of adopting a declaration without consensus is being considered, where each state will indicate whether it supports it.
