YouTube is rolling out a new AI-based system for determining the age of US users that will allow it to detect teenagers regardless of the data provided during registration. About this reported the Google command.
“These protections for teenagers are nothing new – we now have advanced technology that allows us to more accurately determine whether a user is under 18, and we can extend this protection to more teenagers. We have been using this approach for some time in other markets where it works well, and we are now gradually rolling it out in the US.” – says the message.
The new AI-powered model will analyze a variety of signals, including a user’s activity on the platform and how long the account has been used. If the system determines that the user is under 18 years of age, he will receive a notification asking him to confirm his age with a document, selfie or bank card.
For teenage users, features such as reminders to take breaks, bedtime limits, and showing only non-personalized ads will be automatically activated.
For content creators, the changes will mean that videos potentially viewed by minors will be set to private by default. In addition, the ability to earn revenue from gifts during vertical live streams will be limited, which may reduce ad revenue for some creators.
