Zelensky had a phone conversation with Trump.

On the evening of May 8, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi had a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. Later, the head of the Ukrainian state told about the details of the conversation.

The head of state characterized the conversation as “good”. The two leaders congratulated each other on the Victory in Europe Day – the victory over Nazism, and also noted the ratification of the agreement on rare earth metals. The sides discussed the need for further efforts to achieve peace, including concrete actions that could be taken. Trump asked about the situation at the front – Zelenskyi answered.

“I also announced that Ukraine is ready for a 30-day ceasefire starting at least from today. We expect Russia to agree to this proposal. I also confirmed that Ukraine is ready for negotiations in any format. But for this, Russia must show the seriousness of its intentions to end the war, starting with a full and unconditional ceasefire.” – added the Ukrainian president.

According to Zelenskyi, Trump confirmed his desire to end the war, expressed his readiness to help and supported the idea of ​​a ceasefire.

“We agreed on further contacts”, – concluded the head of the Ukrainian state.

In turn, Donald Trump, after a telephone conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyi, called for a 30-day ceasefire:

“The US is asking for, ideally, a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. Let’s hope that an acceptable ceasefire will be respected and both countries will be responsible for respecting the sanctity of these direct negotiations. If the ceasefire is not respected, the US and its partners will impose additional sanctions.”
