Zelensky must “find a way” to restore relations with Trump: NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, during a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, emphasized the need to “find a way” to restore relations with US President Donald Trump after their clash in the White House. That’s what he’s about reported in the BBC’s commentary.

Rutte indicated that the meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and the USA did not bring the expected results. According to him, it is important for Zelenskyi to be able to establish contact not only with the American president, but also with key representatives of the US leadership.

He noted that he “doesn’t have the right to talk about what was discussed”, saying that he told Zelensky that what Trump has done for Ukraine should be respected. At the same time, Rutte recalled that during the first Trump administration – from 2017 to 2020 – the US approved the sale of the Javelin anti-tank missile system, which allowed Ukraine to “fight back” when Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022.

Earlier, on February 28, Zelensky had a telephone conversation with Rutte, as reported by the Financial Times, citing a member of the Ukrainian delegation in Washington. This conversation took place after difficult negotiations between the President of Ukraine and Donald Trump in the White House.
