Zelenskyi held a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Modi

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi began a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is visiting Kyiv today. About this reported edition of Telegraf.

Earlier it was reported that Narendra Modi arrived in Kyiv.

The official purpose of the visit is to “strengthen economic ties between the countries”, but earlier Modi himself said that he would express to President Zelensky his own vision for achieving peace in Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Kyiv comes almost six weeks after his high-profile trip to Moscow, which drew criticism from the US and some of its Western allies. Officially, the purpose of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ukraine is to strengthen economic ties, as well as cooperation in the defense, scientific and technological spheres. However, experts believe that Ukraine is also trying to use the visit to encourage India to take a more neutral stance on Russia’s war against Ukraine.

It should be noted that this is the first visit of the head of the Indian government to Ukraine in the history of bilateral relations. Accordingly, Modi is in Kyiv for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. In addition, his arrival in Kyiv coincides with the National Flag Day of Ukraine – on the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day.

Before coming to Kyiv, he held negotiations in Poland. Despite the fact that the previous visit of the Prime Minister of India to Poland took place 45 years ago. In Ukraine, according to Bloomberg, the visit of the head of the Indian government to Kyiv will be short. It is only a matter of a few hours due to the security situation.

Narendra Modi also shared photos on the X social network and reported on the warm welcome from the Indian community in the Ukrainian capital.

It will be recalled that the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, declared that he supports peace in Ukraine, and also repeated the call for diplomacy to end the war.

The prime minister made the corresponding statement during his speech in Warsaw. Modi said that “now is not the age of war”. According to him, India is “supporter of permanent peace in this region” and believes in dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts.

Modi agreed to “pass the message” between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, although he would not play the role of a formal mediator.
