In the USA, the U4U program, which allowed Ukrainians to receive temporary protection and legal status in the country, has been temporarily suspended. This decision complicated the migration process, since now Ukrainian citizens can enter the US only on general grounds, without special simplified procedures. Donald Trump's administration, which has taken a course to tighten immigration policy, has blocked the approval of new applications for entry for immigrants, which also affected Ukrainians who were hoping to participate in the program. The change in rules caused concern among Ukrainians who were considering the US as a possible option for relocation. At the same time, it forces potential migrants to look for other ways to legally stay in the country. Despite the suspension of U4U, proven ways to obtain visas and legal entry remain, including non-immigrant and immigrant visas. For a temporary stay in the United States, you can obtain a nonimmigrant visa, which allows entry for a specific purpose. These categories include the B-1/B-2 visitor visa for tourism or business meetings, the F-1 student visa for study, the J-1 visa for exchange programs, the C1/D transit visa for crew members, and the K-1 visa for brides of US citizens. There are also temporary employment visas, including the H-1B, which is issued to highly skilled workers with a college degree and significant work experience. Travel and Business Visa (B-1/B-2) – suitable for tourist trips, visiting relatives or friends, attending business meetings, conferences, and short-term medical treatment. A student visa (F-1) is required for those who plan to study at higher educational institutions in the United States or take English language courses. Allows you to legally reside in the country during the entire period of study. Visa for participants of exchange programs (J-1) - intended for persons participating in cultural, scientific or professional exchange programs. It is aimed at expanding international cooperation and cultural exchange. Crew Visa (C1/D) - Issued to air, sea, and river transportation workers transiting through the United States or working aboard ships and aircraft in the country. Fiancé Visa (K-1) – Allows the foreign fiancé or fiancée of a US citizen to come to the country to marry. Within 90 days of arrival, the couple must officially register their relationship. Temporary work visa (H-1B) - created for workers in highly specialized fields where in-depth theoretical or technical knowledge is required. Only highly qualified professionals with a bachelor's degree or higher and at least three years of professional experience can apply. The application process for a nonimmigrant visa involves several steps. First, you need to choose the appropriate visa type, fill out the online DS-160 form, pay the consular fee and make an appointment for a visa interview at the US embassy or consulate. During the interview, you must provide all the necessary documents and answer the officer's questions about the purpose of the trip, financial status and intentions to return to your homeland. For those planning to move to the US permanently, immigrant visas are available to allow you to stay in the country legally, obtain a residence permit, and later apply for citizenship. One of the most popular options is to participate in the Green Card lottery, which is run annually by the US government. After winning this visa, you can get a permit for permanent residence and legal work in the country. Another option is to obtain a work visa based on employment. There are four main categories of immigrant work visas in the US: E1 for outstanding professionals, E2 for highly educated professionals, E3 for skilled and unskilled workers, and E4 for certain special categories of applicants. Entrepreneurs who are ready to open a business in the US or invest in the country's economy also have the option of immigration. For this, there is the EB-5 program, which requires a minimum investment of $1,050,000 or $800,000 in areas with high unemployment. Foreign nationals may also apply for family reunification if their immediate family members are US citizens or residents. Another way to get a residence permit in the USA is to grant political asylum. Ukrainians can submit a corresponding application if they prove that they were persecuted in their country for political, religious or social reasons. Despite the cancellation of the U4U program, Ukrainians have a number of opportunities for legal migration to the United States. It is important to carefully study the available options, consult with lawyers and be responsible when choosing a visa program to avoid risks and problems with your stay in the country.
