As a result of a car hitting a crowd during the “Lapu Lapu” festival in Vancouver, Canada, 11 people died, dozens more were injured, some of them in serious condition. About this informs Reuters.
“There are currently 11 known deaths. We believe dozens more are injured, some seriously, and the death toll could rise in the coming days or weeks.”, – it is said in the statement of acting Vancouver Police Chief Steve Rye.
According to the head of the police, there is currently no reason to consider this incident a terrorist act.
“While I’m not ready to talk about a potential motive, I can say with certainty that the evidence in this case does not lead us to believe that this was an act of terrorism. I can also say that the individual we have in custody has a significant history of interactions with the police and medical professionals related to mental health.”, – explained Rai.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the victims in Vancouver:
“A terrible tragedy at the Filipino festival in Vancouver, where a man drove a car into the crowd, killing and injuring innocent people.
