2.4 million passengers per month: Ukrainians travel more often by rail

Passenger traffic on the trains of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” increased by 22% in a month. During May, 2.4 million tickets were sold. 2.2 million passengers were transported on domestic trains. Another 200,000 Ukrainians made international trips by rail.
The most noticeable increase was the demand for tickets in the direction Kyiv — Chop. In May, three times more passengers traveled on trains along this route.
“The undisputed leader was the Kyiv — Chop route, which grew by 221%. This was the result of the development of the Chop station as a hub between domestic and international trains, in particular, the opening of an alternative travel option to Budapest and Vienna after the launch of trains #367/745 Lutsk/Kyiv — Chop and #143/146 Chop — Vienna in December 2023”, – reported in Ukrzaliznytsia.
The demand for tickets on the Mykolaiv route increased by more than 50% last month. Popular routes were also Kyiv — Khmelnytskyi — Kyiv, Kyiv — Khelm — Kyiv, Kyiv — Vinnytsia — Kyiv.
In total, in May 2024, the trains of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” carried almost 423,000 more passengers than in May 2023.
For the summer period, when citizens travel by rail more often, the number of trains on several routes has been increased. Flights to new destinations are also launched. In particular, from now on the Intercity+ high-speed train No. 741/742 will run from the capital to Lviv.
“The Škoda CityElefant double-decker electric train will depart from Kyiv at 14:45, Korosten 16:26-16:27, Pidzamche 20:42-20:44, arriving in Lviv at 20:56. In the return direction, the train will depart from Lviv at 08:10 with a stop in Pidzamchy 08:21-08:23, Korosten 12:31-12:32 and arrival in Kyiv at 14:10. The train will depart on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from Kyiv to Lviv and on Monday, Thursday and Saturday — from Lviv to Kyiv”, – reported JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”.
The Intercity double-decker train from Kyiv to Lviv will start running on June 9.
