3,600 new members invited to the Recording Academy, which awards the Grammys

This year, 3,600 new artists, songwriters and producers were invited to the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (Recording Academy), which awards the Grammy Awards. Among those invited, 49% are women, 56% are from communities of color, and 60% are under the age of 40. About this informs Variety.
“Grammy membership opens up incredible opportunities for today’s music creators.” Not only do Academy members get the chance to honor their peers with Grammy nominations and awards, but they also get access to hands-on experience, career development programs, a network of professional contacts and mentorship in the music industry. They also become part of an organization that shapes the future of music.” – emphasized the general director of the Academy Harvey Mason.
New members get the opportunity to get involved in the Academy’s many initiatives, including those that promote diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and the protection of musicians’ rights at the national level. In addition, they can join programs for producers, engineers, songwriters and composers and support colleagues in the Academy’s 12 branches.
At the same time, only those participants who have the corresponding Voting Member status have the right to vote at the Grammy Awards. Among those invited to the Academy this year: American pop singer and influencer Addison Rae, Mexican group Grupo Firme, rapper Joey Bada, international girl group Katseye, songwriter Mariah The Scientist and comedian Nikki Glazer.
As a reminder, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (Recording Academy) is an influential musical institution of the USA, founded in 1957, which unites musicians, producers, sound engineers and industry specialists. Academy members can participate in shaping the industry: supporting colleagues, proposing new nominations for the award, changing the rules and holding elected positions in the structure of the organization.
The Academy’s most prestigious honor is the Grammy Award, which has been awarded since 1958 — it is considered an analogue of the “Oscar” in the field of music. In addition, the Academy is the founder of the Grammy Museum, which is engaged in the preservation of musical heritage and educational activities.
