43% of Ukrainians live on pensions of less than $100, and a quarter – on up to $66: Pension Fund

As of October 1, 2024, there are 10.34 million pensioners in Ukraine, according to data Pension Fund of Ukraine. According to Opendatabot, a quarter of Ukrainian pensioners receive pensions of about 2,760 hryvnias ($66), while the largest payments are observed in Kyiv, and the smallest in the western regions of the country.

A total of 10.34 million pensioners receive benefits from the state, of which almost 2.8 million continue to work. The average pension of working pensioners is approximately UAH 6,257. For comparison, the average pension in the country is UAH 5,851 ($141).

43% of pensioners in Ukraine receive payments of less than $100 per month, and more than half of them have pensions that do not exceed UAH 2,760 ($66). At the same time, 25.6% of pensioners receive pensions in the range from UAH 5,000 to UAH 10,000, the average payment in this group is UAH 6,860 ($165). Another 18.6% of pensioners have pensions in the range of UAH 4,000-5,000, with an average payment of UAH 4,414 ($100). Only 12.7% of pensioners receive more than UAH 10,000, the average pension in this category is UAH 15,354 ($370).

The highest pensions were recorded in Kyiv — UAH 7,971, which is 36% higher than the national average. Rivne (7,276 UAH) and Donetsk (7,158 UAH) regions are also among the leaders. At the same time, the lowest payments are in Ternopil (4,460 UAH), Chernivtsi (4,664 UAH) and Zakarpattia (4,697 UAH) regions.

The majority of pension payments in Ukraine (80%) come through banks, of which Privatbank (57.8%) and Oschadbank (31.8%) account for the largest share.
