A group of senators called on the Trump administration to fully transfer more than $300 billion of frozen assets of the Russian Federation to Ukraine

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators called on President Donald Trump’s administration to step up pressure on allies to use more than $300 billion in seized Russian assets to support Ukraine. About this informs Reuters.
“How does the administration view using all the financial tools at its disposal to increase pressure on Russia to end the war? Specifically, does the administration believe that assets under US and EU control should be used as leverage in negotiations with Russia to end the war? If so, how?”, – said in the joint address of the senators.
They also asked whether the administration plans to develop a strategy that would encourage the EU, G7 countries and other partners to use frozen Russian assets. In addition, they asked whether the US government supports Ukraine’s use of Russian sovereign assets controlled by the United States to purchase defense weapons.
The letter was signed by Republicans Todd Young and Lindsey Graham, as well as Democrats Richard Blumenthal and Tim Kaine.
We will remind that for many years members of the US Congress advocated the use of seized Russian assets for the restoration of Ukraine. After the full-scale invasion of Russia began, the United States and its allies banned transactions with the Russian Central Bank and Ministry of Finance, freezing between $300 billion and $350 billion in Russian sovereign assets. Currently, only percentages of the funds of the Russian Central Bank, placed in Western financial institutions, are directed to help Ukraine.
