A special training center for sappers will start working in Ukraine: Shmyhal

Ukraine plans to significantly increase the number of sappers by creating a new specialized training center for the training of these specialists. About this announced Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during the government meeting on September 13.

He explained that the authorities are paying special attention to the demining of agricultural lands, because this is of crucial importance for the restoration of agricultural activity in the de-occupied territories. To support farmers, the state fully compensates the costs of humanitarian demining. The state budget for 2024 provides 3 billion hryvnias for this program.

Since the beginning of the year, sappers have already examined and cleared more than 200,000 hectares of fertile land from explosives, which have now been handed over to farmers to resume sowing and harvesting. The three regions where the largest amount of demining works were carried out are Kherson region, Kharkiv region and Mykolaiv region.

The demining process uses state-of-the-art technologies, including drones and robotic systems. An important achievement is the emergence of new demining equipment from Ukrainian manufacturers, and the state will actively support the development of such technologies as part of the “Made in Ukraine” program.

In addition, the government plans to increase the number of sappers needed to carry out large-scale demining operations. For this purpose, a specialized training center will be opened, which will ensure the training of new specialists in this field.
