After talking with Trump, Maloney announced the preservation of US military support for Ukraine
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni announced that she had a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, the focus of which was the issue of further support for Ukraine, in particular in the field of armaments. She announced this on Friday, July 4, during a speech at the Forum in Masseria economic forum. The information was confirmed by an official source — the Italian government office Chigi Palace.
According to Maloney, she received signals from Trump about maintaining the aid, despite changes in the details of the delivery. This is, in particular, about the correction of decisions regarding the provision of individual components, including air defense equipment. At the same time, she emphasized that it is not a question of refusing to support Ukraine in general.
“The US has only revised its decision to supply certain components, in particular air defense. This is an important fact, but it is very different from a complete cessation of supply.” – said Maloney, commenting on the situation surrounding American military aid.
The Italian Prime Minister also mentioned Donald Trump’s recent conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. She noted that she follows this diplomatic dynamic and sees it as an opportunity to improve communication between Kyiv and Washington. Maloney added that in her own conversation with Trump, it was also about the war in Ukraine, the prospects for support and the importance of the unity of Western partners.
“I hope that there will be positive developments in this regard.” – she emphasized.
Her statement came amid growing concern in Europe over delays in the delivery of American weapons to Kiev, as well as after an incident in March 2025 when the United States temporarily suspended military aid. This was accompanied by the restriction of access to satellite images for Ukrainian users by Maxar, which was later restored. Against this background, the new communication between Maloney and Trump is perceived as an attempt by Italy to support transparency and predictability in matters of Western aid to Ukraine.
