Turkey wants to replace Ukraine in gas transit to the EU

Turkey plans to help the European Union find an alternative to gas transit through Ukraine. This was stated by the Turkish ambassador to the EU Faruk Kaymakci. informs Political.
The ambassador emphasized that energy cooperation will be a key topic in the framework of the expected improvement of relations between Turkey and the EU, which will include trade negotiations and political interaction regarding conflicts in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
This process gained momentum after Hungary and Slovakia began to look for alternatives to Russian gas due to the termination of the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine on January 1 due to the expiration of the relevant agreement.
“We have the Southern Gas Corridor. We have 18 billion cubic meters of gas, mostly from Azerbaijan – and we can easily expand it by connecting it with Mediterranean gas. Our role is there, our potential is there.” – said Kaimakchi.
It will be recalled that the high-level negotiations between Turkey and the EU on energy resources were suspended in 2019 due to the dispute between Ankara and Cyprus regarding the rights to drill gas wells in the Mediterranean Sea.
