After the visit of Musk’s people to the US Department of Energy, mass layoffs took place

The administration of US President Donald Trump has laid off between 1,200 and 2,000 employees at the Department of Energy, including the administration’s nuclear safety and credit management staff. About this informs Reuters.

The dismissals came after three officials from the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE), linked to billionaire Elon Musk, arrived at the ministry.

Employees of national laboratories, hydroelectric power stations and Cold War-era nuclear facilities, which pose a security threat, were also cut. In total, the US Department of Energy employs about 14,000 federal employees and 95,000 contractors.

About 325 workers have been laid off from the National Nuclear Security Administration, which is responsible for managing the US nuclear fleet and ensuring the safety of radioactive materials around the world.

“The Department of Energy believes that your continued employment would not be in the public interest. For this reason, you are resigning from your position with the Department of Energy and the federal civil service effective today.”, says a copy of the letter received by some employees of the US Ministry of Energy.

The department cut off furloughed employees’ access to government laptops and phones just after midnight ET on Friday, February 14. Because of this, many could not receive the message and did not know about their release.
