Almost a hundred applications: the master’s program of the Kyiv School of Economics on the development of UAVs has attracted considerable interest

The master’s program of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) specializing in the design of unmanned aerial vehicles has collected almost 100 applications from applicants. This was reported by the press service of the university comments for Forbes.

Today, there are about 200 companies engaged in the production of drones of various types in Ukraine. However, many of them face a shortage of highly qualified specialists, which indicates the relevance of such educational programs, noted Forbes in November 2023.

KSE has received 95 applications from prospective students since the recruitment for the Master’s Program in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles was announced on August 13, 2024. 74% of them chose the full-time form of education, the rest – part-time or the status of free listeners. Bachelors, masters and specialists of any specialty could apply for the program. The competitive passing score is 140, as reported on the KSE website.

The cost of studying in the program is UAH 136,000. Students will study disciplines such as aerodynamics, automatic control, navigation systems and unmanned systems. The training program includes practical training using simulators and real drones.

Graduates of the program will have the opportunity to undergo internships and employment in Ukrainian and international companies. After completing their studies, they will be able to work as unmanned systems development engineers, test and validation specialists, aviation technology consultants or project managers in the aviation industry.

Ukraine is actively developing the production of drones, and currently about 200 companies are engaged in this. Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said that in 2024 Ukraine can produce up to 1 million drones or even more. This ambition is consistent with President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s plans to produce a million drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which Fedorov called “fairly realistic.”

As of January-February 2024, Ukrainian manufacturers have already produced about 200,000 FPV drones. In July 2024, the government authorized procurement of Ukrainian drones through the Prozorro system, and the private sector plays a significant role in the supply of drones for the Armed Forces. In May, the Defense Procurement Agency for the first time held closed competitive bidding through Prozorro for the purchase of 20,000 drones worth up to UAH 3 billion.

This program of the Kyiv School of Economics is another important step in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and developing high-tech solutions in the field of aviation systems.
