An official of the KMDA is suspected of organizing extortions from carriers: DBR (video)

State Bureau of Investigation  reported about the suspicion of the deputy director of one of the departments of the Kyiv City State Administration and a private entrepreneur in demanding bribes from Kyiv motor carriers.

The criminal scheme was exposed thanks to the appeal of the wife of a serviceman, who managed her husband’s company, which carried out passenger transportation in Kyiv. According to her, the official demanded weekly “contributions” in the amount of 40,000 hryvnias for the right to work on the route, threatening to terminate the contract.

The law enforcement officers detained a middleman entrepreneur while receiving another bribe. During the searches, documents and equipment confirming illegal activity were seized.

Both defendants are suspected of having committed a criminal offense provided for in Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (receipt of unlawful benefit by an official), which is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years.

A pre-trial investigation is currently underway. The SBI is investigating the possible involvement of the department’s leadership in the implementation of this corruption scheme. Procedural management is carried out by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

It is worth noting that this is not the first case of exposure of corruption schemes in KMDA related to road transport. In 2022, the SBI already detained the deputy director of the KMDA department for similar crimes.
