Ancient catacombs discovered in Kharkiv after landslide

In Kharkiv, during the elimination of the consequences of the storm in the Strelka park, a landslide occurred, which led to the discovery of ancient catacombs. About this informs press service of the Kharkiv City Council.
“Utility services have already begun to clear the territory for further study of the underground location. The Kharkiv City Council is keeping the situation under control and is considering all the possibilities of using the found space.” – the message says.
Mayor Ihor Terekhov promised to involve historians and local experts in the study of the catacombs in order to determine their cultural value.
“We will dig this sinkhole deeper to find out what exactly is there. We will raise archival documents. Maybe it is an old water pipe or the territory of a fish market that was here several centuries ago. And maybe something completely different. If it will be of historical value for Kharkiv, we will make a small project so that people can see the history of Kharkiv.”Terekhov noted.
Commenting on the causes of the collapse, the mayor of Kharkiv emphasized:
“We had a storm, we have constant shelling, landslides. I can’t say now what was the cause. Specialists will work and determine what was the main cause.”
