Rested in the Caribbean instead of a business trip: the bribe-taking judge received a new suspicion

The judge of the Brovar city and district court of the Kyiv region is suspected of fraud and forgery of documents.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) have collected new evidence of the criminal activity of the judge of the Brovarsky City District Court of the Kyiv region, who was previously suspected of corruption. About this reported at the SBU.

According to the case file, the judge is involved in fraud and forgery of documents, with the help of which he illegally traveled abroad in the summer of 2023 under the guise of a business trip. In fact, instead of a business trip, the person involved together with his roommate went on a cruise ship to the Caribbean islands.

For this, the judge used a forged letter of invitation to participate in a conference on assistance to migrants, families with children, and orphans from Ukraine to the EU. At the same time, no similar measures were held in the specified country at that time.

The judge’s fictitious invitation was helped by a lawyer he knew. Based on the received evidence, the judge and his accomplice, a lawyer, were notified of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • ch. 2, 5 Art. 27, Ch. 3, 4 Art. 358 (forgery of documents, seals, stamps and forms, sale or use of forged documents, seals, stamps, by prior collusion by a group of persons);
  • Part 2 of Art. 190 (fraud committed repeatedly or by prior conspiracy by a group of persons).

It will be recalled that in September 2023, the same official was exposed for a bribe he received for making the “correct” decision in a property dispute.

Comprehensive measures regarding the investigation were carried out under the procedural guidance of the General Prosecutor’s Office.
