Armed drug dealers posing as military detained in Kyiv

In Kyiv, law enforcement officers exposed a group of drug dealers who were selling drugs in the capital and used military uniforms to disguise themselves. Weapons were also seized from the suspects during the arrest. This was reported by the Kyiv police.
According to law enforcement, the organiser of the drug trafficking network was a 31-year-old man from Kyiv region who had a previous criminal record. He involved two acquaintances who were directly involved in the sale of drugs, including cocaine, amphetamine and cannabis.
‘The cost of the seized illegal substances at black market prices is half a million hryvnias,’ the police said.
Operatives of the Shevchenkivskyi Police Department in Kyiv exposed and detained the members of the criminal group. According to the police, the drugs were sold only within Kyiv during personal meetings with customers, accepting cash payments. To avoid suspicion, the criminals dressed in military uniforms during the sale.
According to Oleksandr Legenkyi, head of the Shevchenkivskyi Department of the National Police, all members of the group were detained during the operation.
‘We detained one of the defendants in the capital, where he had arrived to sell another batch of psychotropic drugs. We seized half a kilo of amphetamine from his car. The rest of the suspects were detained at their place of residence, where psychotropic substances, a grenade and a pistol with ammunition were seized during authorised searches,’ said Legenkyi.
Investigators are currently investigating under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- ч. 2 of Art. 307 (Illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, transfer or sale of drugs and psychotropic substances),
- ч. 1 Art. 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).
The defendants were served notices of suspicion and custody was chosen as a measure of restraint. They face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
