More than 2 million Ukrainians received medical drugs under the “Affordable Medicines” program
The state program “Affordable Medicines”, which provides for full or partial compensation of Ukrainians’ expenses for medical drugs, started in 2017. Since 2019, pharmacies have been added to the project, and citizens could independently choose drugs with a discount based on a special prescription. During 2023, 2.2 million Ukrainians used the “Affordable Medicines” program.
“When the National Health Service started administering the reimbursement program in 2019, it worked in three directions. In 2023, the “Affordable Medicines” program covered more than 500 names of medicinal products in nine directions,” – says the reports of the National Health Service.
In total, over five years (as of April 2019), 4.4 million people used the program. Most often, patients receive drugs against cardiovascular and chronic diseases for free or at full cost
lower respiratory tract diseases and type 2 diabetes.
Also, a significant share of the reimbursement program is occupied by drugs that are given to patients after a stroke.
