At construction sites in Ukraine, the shortage of workers has reached 40%, companies are attracting migrants

Ukraine is facing an unprecedented shortage of workers in the construction industry. WITHand according to the European Business Association, 74% of companies experience a shortage of personnel, and in some cases the deficit reaches 40%.
This situation forces construction companies to look for alternative solutions. Some of them have already begun to attract migrants from countries such as Pakistan, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, the Philippines and Africa. It is expected that the first workers from abroad will arrive in June.
The government of Ukraine recognizes the problem and promises to activate retraining programs for Ukrainians who remain behind. Special attention is paid to the involvement of women in professions that were traditionally considered “male”.
Despite a 22.5% increase in the average salary in the construction industry over the past year, the number of officially employed construction workers has decreased by a quarter compared to 2022. This shows that the problem of staff shortage has deep roots and needs a comprehensive solution.
