Detectives of the Main Division of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine informed the shareholders and the head of the cash operations department of the Kyiv Regional Directorate about the suspicion of intentionally bringing one of the Ukrainian banks to insolvency. The investigation established that for a long time the persons involved issued cash to the bank’s clients without issuing the relevant documents, recorded the receipt of funds that were not actually received, falsified data on cash balances in the bank’s vault, and submitted false information to control bodies. Despite the attempts of the National Bank to conduct an audit, the bank did not allow specialists to inspect the storage.
In connection with the revealed violations of the board, the NBU declared the bank problematic, and subsequently insolvent, introducing a temporary administration. During the audit, a shortage of cash was discovered in the Kyiv Regional Directorate — more than UAH 153 million, almost USD 5.8 million and 42.5 thousand. euro. The equivalent is more than UAH 365 million.
In the course of the pre-trial investigation, more than 25 interrogations of bank employees, a number of checks, as well as an official investigation and an economic examination were conducted, which confirmed the offense. The extras were charged with suspicion under Art. 2 Art. 28 hours 1 Art. 218-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The property of the majority shareholder was seized in the amount of about 40 million hryvnias. The total amount of civil lawsuits is approximately UAH 400 million.
The indictment against the head of the cash operations department has already been submitted to the court. The shareholders have been declared wanted, and the pre-trial investigation of other bank officials is ongoing.
