Ukrainians can be billed up to UAH 4,000 for electricity

Some consumers in Ukraine may receive another payment of up to 4,000 hryvnias in addition to the standard payment for electricity used. It is about cases, when the electricity supply was cut off — not only because of debt, but also for other reasons.

In a number of situations, the cost of reconnecting to the network will be borne directly by the consumer. We are talking about the amount of 3,950 hryvnias, which will have to be paid to restore the power supply.

In 2025, electricity may be turned off if:

  • the consumer does not allow representatives of the energy company to the meter for inspection;
  • the validity period has expired, the contract with the operator of the distribution system or the supplier of electricity has been terminated or not concluded at all.

In this case, it may take three to five days to restore power. Utilities recommend timely fulfillment of all terms of the contract in order to avoid unnecessary costs and difficulties.

We will remind you that in Ukraine stricter rules have been introduced regarding the inspection of electricity meters. This is happening against the background of changes in tariffs that have come into effect for most consumers. The basic electricity tariff for most Ukrainian households is UAH 4.32 per 1 kWh. However, a differentiated payment system applies to owners of three-zone meters. During the hours of the greatest load on the network — from 8:00 to 11:00 and from 20:00 to 22:00 — electricity costs UAH 6.48 per kWh. During periods of average load, the tariff drops to UAH 4.34, and during the night hours — from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. — it is UAH 1.728 per kWh.

A different system applies to users of dual-zone meters. During the day, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., the tariff is UAH 4.34 per kWh, and at night, from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., the tariff drops to UAH 2.16.

Separate conditions are maintained until the end of April for households where electric heating is installed and the relevant registration is completed. In such cases, a reduced rate of UAH 2.64 per kWh per month applies for consumption of up to 2,000 kWh per month. If the consumption exceeds this volume, the tariff increases to the standard level — UAH 4.32 per kWh.
