Belgium will assist Ukraine in transforming the reconstructive surgery system

The Belgian international cooperation agency Enabel will provide assistance to Ukraine in the transformation of the reconstructive surgery system. About this informs press office of the Ministry of Health.

“I am sincerely grateful to Enabel for the comprehensive support of the Ukrainian health care system — from humanitarian aid to participation in the restoration of medical facilities. Our cooperation in the field of rehabilitation is especially important, as well as in the project to create national centers of expertise in maxillofacial surgery in Lviv and Kyiv. This is an example of a partnership based on a common vision: modern medical care should combine treatment, rehabilitation, education and innovation”, – noted Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko.

The development of maxillofacial surgery in Ukraine became a key topic of discussion. This direction has become critically important due to the significant increase in the number of injured people who require complex reconstructive intervention. We are talking about both military personnel and civilians, as well as patients with congenital anomalies or the consequences of oncological pathologies.

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine, together with its partners, plans to create two national centers of expertise in facial reconstruction — in Kyiv and Lviv. Centers on the basis of the Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital and Superhumans Center will become not only medical institutions, but also educational and clinical hubs that will shape new standards of care, in particular through the introduction of modern technologies of 3D modeling, digital planning, and prosthetics.

One of the participants of the project is the Superhumans Center — a center that introduces a new philosophy in the medical care system: combining medical, rehabilitation and social services, as well as a scientific and educational component under one roof. The center has a powerful infrastructure, international partnerships, and is also the clinical base of the departments of the Lviv National Medical University named after Danylo Halytskyi, which enables students and interns to acquire practical skills on the basis of a high-tech institution. Superhumans operates in Lviv and Dnipro, providing balanced access to care for patients in different regions and forming a network of partner hospitals.

The joint project also provides for a powerful educational component — training programs, internships for Ukrainian specialists in Belgium, the involvement of international experts in training in Ukraine, as well as a revision of the educational standards for the training of maxillofacial surgeons in accordance with European requirements.
