‘Bilingualism entails linguistic schizophrenia. There will be no more gentle Ukrainisation, only offensive one.’ Taras Kremin

Bilingualism causes linguistic “schizophrenia”, when the simultaneous use of several languages with an uncertain priority of Ukrainian as the state language leads to a split in behavior and attitude to national interests. This was stated by language ombudsman Taras Kremin in interview “Ukrainian Pravda”.
“Because of this, some citizens continue to go to the church associated with the Russian Orthodox Church. Because of this, there are collaborators and people who surrender Ukrainian positions; people who believe that it is possible to negotiate with Russia, that there are good Russians. But it is dangerous, harmful and threatens national interests“, said Kremin.
He also emphasized that the period of “gentle Ukrainization” has ended, and now the stage of active Ukrainization is coming. This means strict control over the implementation of the language law in all spheres of public life on the territory of Ukraine.
“Previously, we could not influence, say, individual media, because the article, which stipulates the obligation of the Ukrainian language in the field of culture, did not work in its entirety; could not put pressure on the service sector – which is a multi-million community of users and service providers – but today there is no such thing. We have tools and levers for monitoring, controlling and punishing each business entity“, the official explained.
According to him, the state already has all the necessary tools for monitoring, controlling and punishing entities that violate the language law.
