Britain increases its fleet of nuclear submarines

Britain continues to expand its fleet of nuclear submarines. At the same time, the company Rolls Royce became one of the key partners of this project, concluding an agreement with the government in the amount of 9 billion pounds, informs BBC.

British Defense Secretary John Gealy plans to formally announce the deal during his visit to the Rolls Royce plant in Derby, where nuclear reactors are made.

The contract, named “Unity”, is designed for 8 years and is aimed at increasing the efficiency, environmental friendliness and optimization of the design, production and maintenance of reactors. The deal will create more than 1,000 new jobs in Britain and save a further 4,000.

The government said the contract would consolidate previous deals and streamline processes, saving £400m. The project covers both the maintenance of Britain’s existing submarine fleet and the construction of new Dreadnought-class submarines, as well as the conclusion of contracts for the AUKUS defense alliance.

The new submarines will be built in Britain and Australia, using advanced technology from all three AUKUS countries.
