Britain plans to transfer frozen $2.97 billion from the sale of Chelsea FC to Ukraine

Britain plans to unfreeze $2.97 billion from the sale of FC “Chelsea” and transfer it to Ukraine. This was stated by the head of the British Foreign Ministry, David Lammy, informs Financial Times.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain, David Lammy, promised to unfreeze the billions of dollars received from the sale of the football club “Chelsea” by the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, and to send these funds to support Ukraine.
Abramovich was forced to sell Chelsea after sanctions were imposed against him in February 2022 when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Earlier, both Abramovich himself and the British authorities promised that the money from the sale would be used to help Ukraine.
“I’m upset that this hasn’t happened yet, that’s true – and that the money needs to be distributed, it needs to be used,” – noted Lemmy.
Currently, $2.97 billion remains frozen in a special UK trust while discussions continue on how to access and use these funds.
“I am determined to see how this money will go to Ukraine, and to do everything possible to achieve this.” – emphasized the head of the British Foreign Ministry.
