“Christians are not afraid of the end of the world”: the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Kirill, made a statement about nuclear weapons (video)

The Patriarch of the Moscow Patriarchate Kyrylo Gundyaev made a resounding statement, urging not to be afraid of a nuclear war, because “Christians should not be afraid of the end of the world.” During his speech at the plenary session of the XXVI World Russian People’s Council, he criticized excessive fear and hype around the topic of nuclear weapons, calling it harmful from a spiritual point of view.
He criticized “fear mongering around possible apocalyptic scenarios, excessive alarmism and speculation on the nuclear topic,” stressing that they are spiritually unhelpful. The Patriarch noted that the enemy of humanity is trying to sow fear in people’s hearts, paralyze their will and deprive them of courage. In his opinion, fear makes people vulnerable to manipulation.

“Fear mongering around possible apocalyptic scenarios, excessive alarmism and speculation on the nuclear topic are not helpful from a spiritual point of view. The enemy of the human race is trying to sow anxiety in the hearts of people, … because a person deprived of the spiritual world is easier to manipulate… There is no need to play along with all this. Christians are not afraid of the so-called end of the world. We are waiting for the Lord Jesus, who will come to great glory, destroy evil and judge all nations.” – said Gundyaev.
At the same time, he emphasized that waiting for the end of the world does not mean passivity.
“This means that we have to sit back. On the contrary, our earthly vocation is to be soldiers of the Lord, … to resist evil and defend high moral ideals. This is the goal-setting in Russia”, – said the patriarch.
