Competition for the position of BEB director will continue despite the SBU’s request to check candidates for ties to Russia

The commission for the selection of the head of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine decided to continue the competition and interviews, despite the request of the Security Service of Ukraine to allow more time to check three candidates who may have ties to Russia. About this it is said in the decision of the commission.

Earlier, the commission turned to the Security Service of Ukraine with a request to carry out an additional check on three candidates for the position who may be connected to the aggressor state. The Security Service called for additional time to conduct the appropriate inspection.

At the same time, the head of the commission, Laura Stefan, said that the body cannot afford to wait for the results, so the interviews will continue. Three international members of the commission voted for her position. Representatives from Ukraine, in their turn, opposed the continuation of the procedure until receiving the official conclusions of the Security Service of Ukraine regarding possible connections of the candidates with Russia.

According to the law, in the event of an equal distribution of votes, the decision of the international experts takes precedence, but it becomes effective only after 24 hours. In this regard, they decided to postpone the start of the interviews until Monday.

People’s deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, the author of amendments to the legislation that gave international members of the commission a preferential right to vote, expressed support for the decision to continue the competition without waiting for the completion of the inspection.

Oleg Shram, a lawyer and managing partner of the “Law and Defense” bar association, commented on the actions of international representatives in the commission, noting that they look like the implementation of a pre-planned scenario.

“Incredibly wonderful demonstration of the attitude of foreign members of the commission with the predominant right to vote towards their colleagues on the commission and not only. It looks like “I see the goal – I don’t see obstacles”. So vote already for the appointment of that Skomarov, or whoever you have identified there from among the active employees of NABU.”, – said Schram.

Earlier, StopCor journalists reportedthat Oleksandr Skomarov, the head of the NABU detective unit and candidate for the position of director of the Security Intelligence Service, did not disclose information about the Russian citizenship of his father, who has a business in the territory of the so-called “LPR”.

In addition, his sister Alina Danchenko is a participant in the case against the “smuggling king” Vadym Alperin. During her tenure as head of the Department of the State Fiscal Service, she assisted Alperin in customs clearance of goods.
