Court extends Shufrych’s arrest until July 13

The Shevchenkiv District Court of Kyiv decided to extend the preventive measure for People’s Deputy Nestor Shufrych in the form of detention until July 13 inclusive. About this reported Deputy’s lawyer Viktor Karpenko.

The court also ordered the pretrial detention center to organize a medical examination for Shufrych in a hospital. According to the defender, it is about a short-term escorted removal for medical procedures – without hospitalization.

A meeting regarding the extension of the preventive measure was considered on May 14, but a decision could not be made then. Shufrich said before the start of the hearing that the preliminary hearing, which lasted nine months, will have to be started again due to the change of the presiding judge. He called it “dragging” the case.

The judicial panel explained that the replacement of the judge took place due to the business trip of the previous chairman to Poland, which will last until May 17. Against this background, one of Shufrych’s lawyers asked for the postponement of the hearing, arguing that there were no grounds for changing the judge, and noted that it would be appropriate to “just wait” for his return.

We will remind you that on September 3, 2023, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that an indictment had been sent to the court against the People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the 9th convocation from the banned OPZZH party Nestor Shufrych and his former assistant Vyacheslav Cherepany.

They are accused under Part 3 of Article 110-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — of financing actions aimed at violently changing or overthrowing the constitutional order, seizing state power, as well as changing the boundaries of the territory and the state border of Ukraine. In addition, Shufrych is charged with treason under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
