Denys Shmyhal said that even a partial opening of airspace in Ukraine is currently impossible

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal statedthat due to the current security situation, a partial opening of the airspace is impossible. Therefore, the government is focusing on the development of alternative routes for the transportation of goods and passengers.

“We conducted a risk assessment and identified the need for air defense forces and means to partially open the airspace. Security and the military situation remain key to this decision. That is why it is important for us to develop alternative routes for the delivery of goods and the movement of passengers. We are talking about the land border, road and rail transport”, – said the head of the government.

The Prime Minister noted that the Russian attacks significantly damaged the country’s aviation infrastructure, in particular, at least 15 civilian airports were damaged. In addition, in the last three months alone, the enemy has carried out about 60 attacks on the port infrastructure. As a result of these strikes, almost 300 objects, 22 civilian vessels and dozens of people were injured.

Despite these challenges, Shmyhal noted the stable operation of the Ukrainian maritime corridor thanks to the efforts of the Defense Forces. According to him, more than 2,800 ships have already used this corridor, transporting more than 75 million tons of cargo to more than 40 countries of the world. Of these, more than 50 million tons were agricultural products.
