Deputies of the Zaporizhia City Council decided to allocate half a million hryvnias to combat locusts

Deputies at a meeting of the city council of Zaporizhia approved the decision to allocate 500,000 hryvnias to counteract the locust invasion, which has already been recorded in several districts of the city.
“The first stage of the fight against locusts is the history of their technical collection. It is simply necessary to mechanically collect them from the territory, from trees, from the ground with special nets. And only after that is the opportunity to apply a chemical method of its destruction.” – explained acting Regina Kharchenko, Mayor of Zaporizhzhia.
According to her, the situation is a consequence of the environmental disaster caused by the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP, and similar manifestations can last for years.
“These are the consequences of the environmental disaster, the undermining of the Kakhovskaya HPP. And, unfortunately, we will experience various negative environmental consequences for years. This is a threat to agricultural crops and green spaces.”Kharchenko noted.
Currently, the quarantine regime has been introduced only in the Communarsky district of the city. The State Emergency Service and the State Production and Consumer Service do not record a general threat to Zaporizhzhia, however, as assured by acting of the mayor, the authorities are ready for a quick step-by-step reaction.
“As far as I know, the State Production and Consumer Service and the State Service for Emergency Situations do not see any criticality in the city of Zaporizhia. Quarantine has been declared in one of the districts, it is Komunarskyi. Now the situation is under control.” – added Regina Kharchenko.
She also reported that the resources for further stages of locust control are available, and if necessary, the city’s emergency commission will be promptly convened.
For information According to the State Production and Consumer Service, the main factors in the spread of locusts in Ukraine are the increase in average daily temperatures, changes in natural and climatic conditions, the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP, war and abandoned front-line lands. Because of this, control over the situation in the frontline regions was complicated. In the southern regions, in particular in the Mykolaiv region, due to drought and heat, sunflowers die, and farmers no longer hope for a harvest.
