CPJ denies rumours of 100,000 DPRK troops being trained for war in Ukraine

The information about the alleged training of soldiers from North Korea by the Russian military to be sent to the front in Ukraine is not true. About this reported Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Combating Disinformation, in his Telegram channel.

“Information about the training of 100,000 North Korean soldiers and their deployment on the territory of Ukraine, which appeared in the mass media, is currently fiction”, Kovalenko noted.

He also emphasized that less than 1% of the officers of the North Korean army speak Russian, which is an important factor in understanding how unlikely it is to involve the North Korean military in operations on the side of the Russian army.

Earlier, The Washington Post reported on the possible training of several thousand soldiers from North Korea in Russia, who could be sent to the front in Ukraine.

It is also worth recalling that at the beginning of October, South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun suggested that North Korea could send its troops to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to support the Russian war.
